Earth Day 1970: We must act now to prevent Global Cooling and a new ice age.


Throughout the 1970s scientists and environmentalists warned of impending doom from the clearly visible climate trend towards a new ice age.

The drop in food production was forecast to begin in the mid 1980s.

NOAA data showed that the ground temperatures in the northern hemisphere had dropped by 0.5° between 1945 and 1968.

One way suggested to avert disaster was to melt the Arctic ice cap by covering it in soot.
