Charles Millar left his estate to the Toronto woman who gives birth to the most children in 10 years.
Canadian lawyer and financier Charles Vance Millar, a noted practical joker, offered the bulk of his estate to the Toronto woman who had the greatest number of children in the 10 years after his death, in 1926.
Attempts were made by his would-be heirs to invalidate it, but the will stood and his fortune eventually went to four women.
“at the expiration of ten years from my death to give it and its accumulations to the mother who has since my death given birth in Toronto to the greatest number of children as shown by the registrations under the Vital Statistics Act [Ont.]. If one or more mothers have equal highest number of registrations under the said Act to divide the said moneys and accumulations equally between them.”
